Does my child have to attend all 5 days?

No, they do not have to attend 5 days, but we recommend that they attend a minimum of 3 days a week. Students build on skills from previous classes. Attending a minimum of 3 days a week gives you the benefit of a martial arts program. Your child’s confidence grows strong with consistent training.  See the rewards each step of the way as they progress through attaining the rank of white sash, gold sash, blue sash, green sash, brown sash, Red Sash & Black Belt!

If my child attends only 3 days a week, do we have to pay the full monthly rate?

Our monthly rate is fixed no matter how many days your child attends. Our transportation and instructors are committed for the students who attend all 5 days.  We do not pro-rate based on days of a child’s attendance.

*Your first payment serves as a non-refundable deposit that reserves your place in the program. The deposit will be applied to the first month’s tuition. Automatic payments will begin on the second month.*

What should my child pack every day for training?

We recommend students pack a One with Heart uniform, which includes: t-shirt, pants, belts or sashes. Put everything in a Ziplock bag in the bottom of their school backpack.

Please put your child’s name on their uniforms, water bottles and lunch boxes.

Daily Packing List:

Belt or Sash – Students earn belts and sashes over the school year. You do not buy them; they are awarded after completion of a set curriculum and should be worn for every class.

Is the after school program in session on holidays or teacher planning/in-service days?

The after-school program is not in session on federal holidays, teacher planning days, in-service days and spring and winter breaks. Please check the PPS calendar for those specific dates.

What happens if school is cancelled or let out early due to extreme weather conditions?

One With Heart follows Portland Public Schools call on inclement weather. If school is cancelled or let out early, we will not hold The After School Program that day. We will text and email parents directly by 9am when we are not offering the program due to Portland Public School closures. It will be TBD for other evening kid’s classes.

What happens if Portland Public Schools closes for in person instruction?

We moved our after-school program to our live streaming classes back in 2020 which was such a huge support to students and families during a tumultuous time. We feel confident in the quality of our instruction online now! In the event PPS closes for in person instruction, we will shift to live streaming to maintain the continuity of our students learning.

Where is the pick-up location at my child’s school and what happens on the first day?

Typically, we would ask a parent or guardian to walk their child to the pickup site on their first day to build their confidence in this routine. Portland Public Schools and each school site are working out the after school pick up. We will keep you posted as we get details from Richmond.
